July 3rd Family Tradition

Our holidays involve a tradition that most 3 and 6 year olds don’t worry about. We always visit their brother Gabe’s grave on holidays and with each change in season. Their Grandfather Jack makes Gabe the cutest floral arrangements with stuffed animals all decked out for that time of year. This little bear is in camouflage with a Green Beret on and an American Flag in hand.

We think Danielle “gets” it, she often talks about how she wishes Gabe lived with us. But Memorial Day she asked if we were going to visit Gabe in Heaven. After some clarification we found out that she thought the cemetary was Heaven.

Grief is hard to deal with in many aspects. It never quite goes away, some days coming back with a vengeance out of nowhere. This year as Danielle heads into the school year she is going to be a 1st grade cheerleader. We can’t help but think about how we should have a little boy playing football in Kindergarten as well.
